Grand Champions Won the Fall Plates at the Grand Champions Polo Club

Team Grand Champions secured victory in the fifth Medium-Goal tournament of the fall season, beating Newport by 10-7 in a final held at the Grand Champions Polo Club under rather windy conditions. The match saw Grand Champions dominate from the outset, maintaining their lead throughout to claim the win.

The winning line-up for Grand Champions featured Miles Rich, Grant Ganzi, Martin Jauregui, and Pablo Dorignac. Newport’s team consisted of Gene Goldstein, Santos Bollini, Sugar Erskine, and Jason Crowder.

Grand Champions took an early 2-0 lead in the first chukker with goals from Ganzi and Jauregui. Their strong offensive play continued as they extended their lead to 3-1 after the second chukker and 4-2 at half-time.

The momentum carried into the second half, with the team leading 6-3 after the fourth chukker and pushing the score to 10-4 by the fifth chukker. Despite a late push from Newport, who scored three consecutive goals in the final chukker, Grand Champions held firm for the 10-7 victory.

Argentine 6-goaler Martin Jauregui was named Most Valuable Player, having led all scorers with four goals. The Best Playing Pony award went to Brilliant, a 9-year-old chestnut mare owned by Santa Rita Polo Farm, played by Ganzi during the latter part of the match. For the second consecutive tournament, Miles Rich was recognized as the Most Improved Player.
