Alex Meshechok"It’s been less than a year, but it’s been a very intense year. We played in Wellington, Greenwich, Morocco, and now here in Argentina—it’s been amazing"

Alex Meshechok, a newcomer to polo, has embraced the sport with remarkable intensity since joining Polo United earlier this year. Under the guidance of Ciro Desenzani and Michel Dorignac, he has quickly progressed, forming his team, York RE Capital, which now competes within the Polo United structure.

In their first tournament in Argentina, Alex and his team claimed victory at La Estrella Polo Challenge, a 10-goal event hosted by Alfredo and Facundo Goti. This achievement shows Alex’s dedication and the solid structure provided by Polo United’s professional coaching and support.

Now, Alex is making the most of his time in Argentina, playing intensively during the peak polo season while also preparing for a busy winter in Wellington. With plans to compete in 6, 8, and 12-goal tournaments, York RE Capital is poised to continue its upward trajectory.

-Alex, we’re in Argentina, and you’ve just played an incredible six-chukker match here at La Estrella. Tell us about it and your plans for the season.

"It was a delightful day here at La Estrella. I’m very happy to be here with Ciro Desenzani and Polo United, playing with my team, York RE Capital. This was the first tournament I’ve played here. We arrived on Saturday and had a few practice sessions leading up to this match.

The day was perfect—great weather, the grounds were in top-notch condition, and we’re very pleased with our selection of horses. The match itself was fantastic. The opposing team put in a strong performance, but I’m incredibly proud of my team. Everyone worked hard, coordinated beautifully, and played with a lot of heart. We won 9-6, which was very satisfying.

I scored a few nice goals, and I think there are some pictures to prove it! As they say in polo, the game is 70–80% about the horses, and mine certainly delivered today. I’m thrilled with how I was mounted—it made all the difference."

-You’re in the center of worldwide polo during the prime season. How does that feel?

"Wonderful. Being here in Pilar during November and December is such a privilege. This is prime polo season, and I’m here until the end of the month. We’re playing another tournament tomorrow, and then I’ll spend a few days in Mendoza. After that, we’ll be back for more tournaments the following week.

Of course, we’re also planning to watch some of the incredible matches in Palermo in Buenos Aires. It’s truly a beautiful time to be here. I’m thrilled with my team’s performance and excited for what’s ahead."

-Tell us a little about your journey in polo. How did it all begin?

"I started playing with Ciro back in February, so this is all still quite new to me. It’s been an intense journey, though. I started in Wellington, Florida, playing part of the winter season there. Then we moved on to Greenwich for the summer.

In September, I played in the Pro-Am final in Greenwich in front of 5,000 people, which was an amazing experience—very exciting! After that, we went to Morocco and played at La Palmera, where we won our first tournament. That victory set a great tone and was a fantastic warm-up for Argentina.

It’s been less than a year since I started playing polo, but it’s been an intense and rewarding year. Looking ahead, we’re planning to compete in 6, 8, and possibly 12-goal tournaments in Wellington in January, February, and March. It’s safe to say we’re all in!"

-Tell us more about York RE Capital.

"York RE Capital is a real estate investment company focused on the self-storage industry. We develop ground-up properties in the U.S. and also acquire recently built facilities or properties with value-added potential. We typically hold these properties for 3 to 7 years, making improvements before selling them.

It’s a business I’ve been involved in for many years, and it’s very rewarding. Essentially, we specialize in commercial real estate, with self-storage as our primary focus."

-Lastly, what does Polo United mean to you?

"Polo United is our partner and a crucial part of our polo journey. Ciro and I are very close, and Polo United provides the infrastructure, support, and professionalism we need to succeed. It’s an incredible organization, and Ciro is simply amazing to work with."
